Goddess Cre is an upcoming singer/songwriter, who has been inspired by talented artists like Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill, and Rihanna and describes herself as the “Lady of Hip-Pop Blues.” This Full Sail graduate is originally from Biloxi, Mississippi but began her music journey in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 2010. It wasn’t until after her sudden cancer diagnosis that the seal was placed on her destiny. In 2016, she was diagnosed with DLB Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and underwent invasive chemo and radiation treatments to restore her health. The beauty of her very first project "In Remission" emerged from the darkness. You can find it across streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and more.

“Better Days is the first single released from R&B Soul singer/songwriter Goddess Cre’s EP ‘In Remission’, and it may very well be the most flawless balance of soul and groove I’ve ever slipped into.” writes Amelia Vandergast, a music reviewer for AnRFactory.com. Some of her accolades include airplay on internet radio stations SugarwaterRadio.com and WNIR-Radio.com and she was one of the Women to Look for in 2020 for the WNIR-Radio special. Her performances include various open mics, conferences, and other events in the NC area. She was a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) in 2020 for her song “Blues.” While in quarantine, she landed an A&R Internship with the newly founded company GreatherThan which is based out of Santa Monica, CA. Under the mentorship of the company’s CFO Paula Moore, she quickly became one of the company’s Lead A&R Scouts. Upon completion of the internship, she has begun writing and working on her very first album “Unavailable AF” which is set to release sometime in 2023. To find out more, you can find her across all social media platforms and streaming services as Goddess Cre.

Question and Answer with the Artist:

How did you start in the music business?  I’ve been doing music for a while since age 19 to be exact but I didn’t really take it seriously until 2017. I’m a Full Sail University graduate and I received my Bachelor’s in Music Business in 2016.

How would you describe the music that you typically create? I like to call it Hip-Pop Blues! It’s all of my favorite genres. Hip-hop, R&B, and Pop all combined into one.

What is the current project about?  Currently, I’m working on my very first album and it’s called “Unavailable AF”. It’s about cutting off direct access to me and creating more boundaries with anyone and anything that feels negative to me and my growth. I’m setting up the message to be “this is what I’m doing to heal and grow and if you can’t respect that or if you aren’t trying to do that same thing then I have to go. I’m busy being unavailable”

How do you feel it will inspire others?  I’m really hoping that it will inspire others to do exactly the same. If something in your life is causing you to lack joy, get rid of it and make yourself unavailable until you finish your healing process. It’s not the easiest process to go through but it’s YOURS. Accept it, own it, and make any change you feel is necessary.

What is your creative process like?  I can be all over the place in my creative process at times. I pull inspiration from so many different things and places. Sometimes it’s scrambled around until I can structure out the song and sometimes it just flows. One thing that doesn’t change is my use of the dictionary and the thesaurus. I’m heavy on context and I don’t want to be misunderstood lol so I have to double-check all of my words and make sure I’m using them correctly. I also don’t like repeating too many words so I like to swap them out with their synonyms.

Who would you most like to collaborate with? Pharrell and Timberland are my top 2 producers. To be able to work with them would be an absolute game changer! And I’m going to try my best not to DIE if they ever reached out lol.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be? I’d choose Doja Cat. She’s very creative and a true artist.  I love her diversity and I feel that same diversity as an artist. I aspire to be on her level. Terms as well! I love me some TEMS!

What is one message you would give to your fans? I’d same do everything original. Be yourself unapologetically. Nobody can be you or do you as YOU do you and that’s your superpower.

What is the most useless talent you have? That I can speak Pig Latin but it’s not considered an actual language so I can’t label myself as bilingual lol

Do you sing in the shower? What songs? What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?  Yes! Of course, I sing in the shower! Beyonce’s “Rather Be With You” is one of my favorites as well as “If I Aint Got You” by Alicia Keys and “Emotional Rollercoaster” by Vivian Green. If I weren’t in the music business, I’d either be into computer science/cyber security or herbal medicine. I’m a cancer survivor, now 5yrs in remission! So, after I finished treatments, I became heavily interested in natural healing.

Where have you performed?  What are your favorite and least favorite venues? I’ve only performed locally around my area in North Carolina. Those cities include Fayetteville, Raleigh/Durham, Charlotte, Greensboro, and Wilmington, NC. Just at bars and clubs alike. My favorite was the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte.

Do you have any upcoming shows?  I do not have any shows booked right now. I’m still kind of cautious about covid and now this monkeypox epidemic is going around. I am open and available for them, especially smaller venues right now, and eventually work my way up to the bigger stages.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?  Honestly, quarantine was the best thing that ever happened to me. I felt like the label execs, A&R, and music supervisors had no choice but to go through all of their emails and direct messages. We were all bored in the house and in the house bored lol so you HAVE to listen to my music. And the internet has changed how we can deliver our music directly to them. The internet has provided so many different ways to access these important people and being in quarantine made it even easier to access them.

What is your favorite song to perform? I  have this song called “Better Days” and it’s my favorite to perform. It’s also a fan favorite and as I’ve mentioned previously, I’ve only performed locally so to see all of my people rocking and singing along with me, truly blesses my heart. And it’s a feeling I can’t trade for anything.

What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?  Come on now! We all know snitches get stitches! Lol! So I plead the 5th!

What is the best advice you’ve been given? My mom would always say “Birds of a feather flock together” so be careful who you associate yourself with because whatever reputation they have will automatically attach itself to you so don’t be a follower. Be YOU and do you at all times.

What’s next? I just dropped a new single called “Underneath” on August 5, 2022, and I’m shooting the visual for it next month. I’m currently promoting that. Outside of that, I’m working on Unavailable AF and prepping for its release next year. I do have more singles that I’ll be dropping in between there as well.

What should the world know? I want the world to know that they should follow me on all of my socials and streaming platforms so they don’t miss all of the amazing music, visuals, and merch that I am prepping for them. And you can find me as Goddess Cre or you can use Cre Riggins for backup. Stay safe, don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t do by speaking THEIR fears into you, and speak all of your heart's desires into the Universe so mote they be!
