Ruth Garnes new song Go Girl Go

Introducing Ruth Garnes, the creator of Songs By Ruth, a poet, and songwriter who uses wit and humor to address day to day challenges we face as a society.

Listen to her inspiring material and you can simply discover entry to a world of magic. The listener is transported through a journey that can only be described with words eluding to bliss, unique, deep, raw, and emotionally uplifting. Songs by Ruth is about life’s ups and downs with an encouraging message tailored to the content. Her songs are honest and from the soul, combining art, storytelling, and song in perfect unison. Her Go Girl Go single was inspired by a grandchild who likes Disney princesses but the primary focus of the song was to encourage confidence in women to pursue their life’s dream. With everything going on in today’s society, one needs a vehicle of motivation to inspire the next generation to take action. This does just that and the message of the song is that women can achieve without the beauty, and aesthetics that are currently promoted.

With lyrics such as “like beauty is all that matter like beauty is all that flatters.” Women can do great, great things regardless of what we see when they look in the mirror. It encourages women to set their standards and be the change they want to see in the world. In other words, don’t follow trends, but instead set the trends for others to follow.

This Go Girl Go single was selected for the 10th anniversary Independent No.1‘s award-winning album produced by Billboard Top 10 Producer and MTV EMA Nominee Oliver Sean. Ruth’s discography of singles is a continuing conversation of life set to pop, Americana, and spirituals. Her music is currently available on most streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, and so on.

What the artist had to say:

What first got you into music?

I got into writing songs as though it were a lifeline. Five years after having had a breast tumor removed, I developed brain tumors. I had been making frequent visits to several doctors complaining of symptoms that were typical of brain tumors. However, I was constantly told that my brain images were normal. Feeling unheard, I started internalizing my hurt, then later, it transitioned to write words to encourage myself to keep going.

Who inspired you to make music?

I was an avid music fan. I listen mainly to contemporary Christian and pop and music literally throughout my day. Listening to music helps me to not focus on issues. In my circumstances, I then wrote words that I need to hear to lift me.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

My music is about life with an encouraging message tailored to content.

What is your creative process like?

Heartbreak, heartache, injustice, feeling unheard, unloved not accepted by others triggers my creative process

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

My heart tells me that a Rhianna collaboration would be a dream collab.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

I would want my fans to know that life is a journey and the road can be rocky but use the rocky times for good. Like when life hands you lemons make lemonade.

What is the most useless talent you have?

My most useless talent is that I can talk for hours and not say anything useful

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

I don't sing at all, I have Sjogren and issues with my vocal cord and with swallowing. Other people sing my songs. I write what I need to hear. All songs in the songs by Ruth were written by me but sang by various artists.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

Creating saved my life and gave me joy. Having found my zen, there's nothing I rather do.

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you

I'm not a performer, but this digital age has given birth to me and allowed me to share my creativity with the world.

 Have any upcoming shows?

Who are you a fan of?

I am a fan of Beyonce earlier hits and Toby Mac and Adele but I am more a fan of songs that speaks to me as opposed to artists.

What is the most trouble you have gotten into?

The most trouble I ever got into? Gosh, I was once apart of a protest that turned into a riot. It bothered me for years, I was a little more than apart taker but removed myself before the riots started, so this was good trouble.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

My mom once told me, "To just be happy," and I think the pursuit of happiness became the hallmark of my life.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I would see less monopoly by labels and a more friendly industry to independent creators, but I think projects like Songs by Ruth is showing label and independent can coexist.

What’s next for you?

Expanding my collection and becoming a household name is next for me.
