I Believe by M.W.
I Believe M.W

I Believe by M.W.

M.W. is creating music that promotes the characteristics of the Fruit of the Spirit... Good Music for A New Day!

I Believe is an inspirational song that highlights a life of a believer who realizes what the world is in need of. The believer is purposefully in his outreach to show how Grace reconciles the Truth and is the remedy that cures the issues of life.

I Believe is categorized as a Christian/Gospel album and has the potential to cross over into Adult Contemporary R&B/Soul... It is like listening to "Addicted Love'' or "I'm Lost Without You" by CeCe and BeBe Winans, which is Christian/Gospel music that can be found on R&B/Soul radio rotation.

The album is centered around the Love of GOD and impact of the Holy Spirit in our relationships.

What first got you into music?

I was first introduced to music, in particular gospel/christian music, around the age of 5 yrs old. I remembered dressing in my 3-piece suit to go see my father and his brother and cousins, singing gospel quartet at the local gymnasium. This sparked the beginning of my love for harmonic sounds and the power it has to move people in joyfulness! This joy led me to pay more attention to music/songs when played in church, at family reunions and/or on the radio.

Who inspired you to make music?

Even though I was inspired by family members who were singers or played different instruments, I remembered, in high school, I was singing to myself in driver's ed class, when one of my friends overheard me singing and thought we should form a singing group. We eventually formed a group called "Male Image". We started writing and rehearsing our own songs, talking about the legalities of copywriting and publishing, and starting saving money for studio time to record our first song. This is my most inspiring moment for me; due to the fact that we were making progressive steps to become what we had desired for ourselves.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

This is a great question, as I reflect on the many years of trying to write and produce that one hit song that propels an artist into the national/international spotlight. I was always seeking to create music that was comparable with current songs that were on the radio. I was born into the gospel/christian genre, but raised by the R&B/Soul/Pop/Jazz genres. So for me, I would describe the music I make as an infusion of sounds from which I was birthed and raised in. So you may hear a song by me that may fall under the listed genres of music. The one consistent theme in the music I make is that, "M.W. is creating music that promotes the characteristics of the Fruit of the Spirit!"

What is your creative process like?

At this time, I may have several listening sessions from a list of producers that are current with the market. During the listening sessions, some music prompts an instant melody creation, songwriting response and vocal arrangement. These songs are set-aside for guaranteed studio recording. Some songs require me to revisit several times, before it reaches the stage of being recorded. Some songs I do not consider after listening to them several times. Once the consistent mood of the album is aligned with the theme of the album, then, the creative process moves towards pre-production and group feedback before final production of the album.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I would most like to collaborate with Kirk Franklin, Elevation Worship, Babyface, Teddy Riley, Rodney Jerkins.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

The one message I give to my fans is that each of them are the beloved of GOD, GOD loves them! In loving HIM, we have access to spiritual blessings! Be blessed and live your life in freedom!

What is the most useless talent you have?

The most useless talent I have is drawing and painting! Drawing and painting is what I do, when I am relieving my mind from music projects. Typically, I find time to do this during the summer breaks.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

Very seldom do I sing in the shower. However, if I have an upcoming performance, I may find myself rehearsing songs that will be a part of my performance set. Most of the songs are gospel/christian songs.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

Since I am an independent artist, my music career has not been able to support me and my family. I am a full-time science teacher. I schedule or accept performances that do not interfere with my first priority. As a result, I am more likely to do performances during the summer breaks.

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

Berkeley Cafe - Raleigh, NC (2011)

Evolutions Records/Redstryke Album Release Party - Lakeland, FL (2011)

The Rock Shop - Fayetteville, NC (2014)

Plus Size Expo/Crown Center - Fayetteville, NC (2014)

The NoDa Summer Musicfest/Snug Harbor - Charlotte, NC (2014)

The Pour House Music Hall - Raleigh, NC (2014)

World Changers Church-Raleigh (Special Events)/Royal Banquet Center (2011 - 2019)

The Garner Performing Arts Center (2015, 2016, 2017)

World Changers Church-Raleigh is my favorite venue to perform. It is always nice to praise GOD (WCCR Praise Team) and be a blessing to our special events (Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, Women's Tea, etc.) I also like performing in the Garner Performing Arts venue. They have great sound systems and lighting! My least favorite is the Snug Harbor, due to the small stage and lesser quality lighting. However, the venue offered welcoming service!

Do you have any upcoming shows?

Due to COVID-19, I have not planned any upcoming shows. Since the release of the "I Believe" album, I have received a lot of requests to do a virtual mini concert. I am planning to do a Virtual Holiday Mini-Concert in December!

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I believe the internet has been a great asset to all musicians. The internet has opened once tightly closed doors within the music industry! An artist has the potential to sustain their music career without major music label advancements. They are able to compete with major labels with a minimal budget for their project. At the end of the music project, the internet has helped artists to experience success in the green and not in the red!

What is your favorite song to perform?

I really enjoy performing all the songs of my performance set! I feel it is my responsibility to give my fans what they come to hear! I want them to be happy from the songs I sing! So my favorite songs to sing are the songs that are a part of my performance set!

Which famous musicians do you admire?

There are a lot of musicians I truly admire. I truly admire all the big names, no name singers of gospel/christian music that are dedicated to providing a joyful noise unto the Lord and their congregations! For popular music, here is a spontaneous list of artists that comes to mind: I admire Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers because of the harmonies and the timeliness of their music. I feel the same way about Donnie Hathaway and Stevie Wonder; they are passionate singers that wrote songs that helped shape my understanding of life and the power of the pen. I admire the legacy of Earth, Wind and Fire, Michael McDonald, Michael Jackson, Prince, Glenn Jones. It would not be right to talk about how the male artists that helped shape my understanding about life, without talking about the strong, beautiful songstress that provides that firm foundation and gives stature to men. The legacy of Aretha Franklin and how she was able to be a voice that extended to all major genre of music! The legacy of Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey just to name a few.

What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

The most trouble I've ever gotten into was when I chose not to make Jesus Christ the Head of my life! Now that Jesus Christ is the Head of my life, I must renew my mind daily and live a life led by the Holy Spirit! If I do not do this, I make myself more susceptible to trouble and trouble can get the best of me!

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice I can give to anyone is to be obedient to the divine word(s) of their higher power! For a Christian, be obedient to the Word of GOD!

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

If I could change anything about the industry, I would introduce the Ensemblecoin as the universal cryptocurrency of the music industry! All major online music platforms would compensate Ensemblecoins to music lovers for streaming music of all musicians, whether major or indie. The more music lovers stream music, the more Ensemblecoins they collect to use in the marketplace for good services or even exchange for the currency of their choice. The more music lovers stream music, artists will see an increase in royalties, which can improve the quality of life for all musicians.

What’s next for you?

What's next for me is to continue promoting my 2 new albums "I Believe" and "I'll Be There" . Also, I plan to prepare for the Virtual Holiday Mini-Concert. Lastly, I hope I can get some buy-in into the Ensemblecoin cryptocurrency concept to see if it is possible to move the project forward within a projected roadmap!
