The 10 Most Interesting Startups of 2012


Unlike years past, 2012 list of most ten most interesting start-up doesn't have a single service on the list that requires licenses record labels to operate. Instead, the best and most interesting music startups were the ones that serve artists, sell tickets and aid music discovery. Some, like Mobile Roadie and We Are Hunted, have been around for years and recently gained impressive momentum. Others, like StageIt and PledgeMusic, are transforming how artists interact with their fans.

Taylor Swift's 'Red' Album Rules at No. 1, Bruno Mars Debuts at No. 2
Taylor Swift continues to rule the roost on the Billboard 200 albums chart as "Red" stays steady at No. 1 with 208,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan (up 25%). It's the Big Machine album's fifth non-consecutive week at No. 1.

Business Matters: New Sirius XM CEO to Face New Set of Challenges
It's a new era for Sirius XM Radio. The company announced Wednesday that James E. Meyer has been named company's interim CEO, effective immediately, replacing Mel Karmazin. Sirius XM flourished under Karmazin's leadership. The next CEO will face a different set of challenges, including Pandora, Apple, iHeartRadio, Spotify and other options that will only elevate as 3G and 4G coverage increase around the country.

Jenni Rivera Memorial: How Were Artists, Execs Connected to Her?
Executives and celebrities gathered at the Gibson Amphitheatre to pay their respects to Jenni Rivera, the banda diva who died in a plane crash December 9. Artists in attendance at the crowded memorial included singers Gloria Trevi, Olga Tañón, Ana Gabriel, Marco Antonio Solís and Joan Sebastian, along with many music and television executives. All  had personal or professional ties to Rivera.
